NTSC TO PAL HELP!

Hey fellas-

Forgive my international ignorance... but I have to create a series piece to be delivered and viewed in China on dvd... therefore, we're dealing with PAL-land. I've always been an NTSC-head, so if someone with experience in this realm could provide me with some steps/tips on producing a final PAL output, keeping in mind i'll be shooting with the dvx100a (ntsc). Modes/settings/techniques, etc?

I feel pretty lame asking, but deadlines loom, and life is all about learning! Thanks fellas!!!

Re: NTSC TO PAL HELP!

Thanks Elvis, but i'm needing to convert NTSC to Pal, not the other way around ;)

Re: NTSC TO PAL HELP!

The best way is to shoot in 24p mode.
Use NLE that can remove the pulldown and work with native 24p.
You will need an NLE that supports your DVX100 24p progressive advanced AND can convert NTSC 24p to 25p PAL.

One of them: Vegas 4.0 (updated).
Here is how it works:

You can also try with a small programs like:

http://www.focusinfo.com/products/firestore/dvconversionsuite/dvcsuite.html

but the problem is that these small programs usualy do not support true 24p, which means that you would have to apply the pulldown before you import it into the program. This is where you will probably lose that true 24p look.

Best regards,

Benjamin

Re: NTSC TO PAL HELP!

Why are you bothered about PAL when your format is a DVD?. Virtually very DVD player can play PAL/NTSC encoded disks. If I were you I'd check with your client to see if they need PAL. I work across the Globe PAL/SECAM/NTSC and have never found this to be a problem. Of course don't region code the disks. If you are unsure what region coding means, check the following site:
