Good day ladies, gents, smarter beings and trees, than myself.
Ok asking a very ordinary question here.
Looking to buy NTSC HVX as they are sooo much cheaper on eBay than anything equivalent for sale in Australia or Hong Kong, my two domiciles.
Pretty much both are a desert when it comes to Prosumer end cameras in the used market.
I have my misgivings but in light of the fact that even my old PD170 is , as inferred from a PD150 on ebay, commanding opening bids of $2500.00 AU. Buying something not of the territory I'm shooting in seems to be, as far as sheer purchase, economic sense.
I know of two NTSC HVX shooters here in HK and have not heard anything but praises from them. Visiting Panasonic here in HK I have looked at the HMC152 as it is called here, which is PAL, and the price point is reasonable. However speaking with an Aussie expat having shot pro for years before coming to HK, basically told me to avoid the HMC and its AVCCAM/avchd codec as not being worth it and "rubbish". So there went that idea
Now, I'm looking to use the 'new' ebayed cam in a few shorts here in HK before going back to Australia to shoot a low budget feature in late 2010. There would be a desire to get greenscreen, but mostly would be shot in the wilderness of western australia.
Soo,.. what are any foreseen problems anyone can imagine technically or otherwise. Worst case scenarios welcome. What practicalities can you see coming up from a camera, that ostensibly runs on US/Japanese voltages, being charged off and occasionally run off Aussie/HK 220 Volt power?
P2 cards hard to source from the USA?
Servicing issues, would I end up sending it to LA or Fukuoka?
Am I knee jerking and should i stick to my guns, go the HMC and the benefit of PAL, warranty and SD cards?
I apologise if this is overlong, but I've seen too many questions asked on here before joining, without enough knowledge behind them.Broad non specific questions. I know there are lots of smart people on here who can pretty much answer anything, if given the right questions.
Thanks,
Stevo
