NTSC Footage Capture in PAL camera

Hello all,

I recently bought a NTSC DVX100b which I am taking overseas where they use PAL. I am taking a few tapes along with me. After recording in DVX, can I capture the footage using a local PAL camera? Any downsides with it? Also, if run out of tapes I am taking with me, would I be able to use any local tape?

Thanks in advance. I am a newbies, so any help would be much appreciated?

Hi, good idea with buying the camera from America - saved yourself a grand (rip off Britain!). Unfortunately, you can't capture a DV tape with NTSC material with a PAL camera - they just don't interchange. Instead just use the actual DVX to capture the footage - no probs surely?

On the topic of tapes - the DV tape is universal so don't worry about that. Some people say that it doesn't matter what DV tape brand you use (Sony, Panasonic, JVC etc) but just use the same one each time. It has something to do with the chemicals on the tape mixing with others and then gumming up the camera or something - some people say that this is true, others say that it isn't, and other's say that it depends on the camera as well, so it's your own choice on what you do.

Hope this helps! Lee
