NTSC 24p to PAL

Hello,
Question!
I will shoot on 24p NTSC but finally it has to be converted to PAL. It will be for television and not to be blown 35mm. Is this possible or will it give problems. If it gives problems, is it better to shoot it on 30p?

What will be the best solution to shoot "filmic" keeping in mind that it will be converted to PAL.

Thanks very much, Dolph ;)

Re: NTSC 24p to PAL

Converting 30P to PAL is pretty much impossible if you wan't a high-quality, smooth output. Your best bet is to shoot in 24PA, and make a finished cut in a 24P timeline. On output, you can adjust the speed of the video to 25P, and then easily convert that to 50i, giving you a smooth, almost perfect PAL version. The audio's pitch will be a little off, but you can find programs that will fix that issue.

If you need a PAL transfer and you're shooting with an NTSC DVX, your best bet is 24P, second best is 60i, and you'd likely not ever want 30P.

Re: NTSC 24p to PAL

The best bet is to shoot on a PAL DVX. The 25p will look filmlike on PAL television, and will look better (and sound better) on a PAL TV than converted NTSC will.

If you must shoot on NTSC for some reason, most definitely use 24P, and NOT 30P (as Mike said). But if you're thinking of shooting the NTSC 24p camera for a more filmlike look, I'd say don't. You'll get better results on a PAL TV by shooting on a PAL camera.

Re: NTSC 24p to PAL

Would you say that I paste my 24PA seqeunce into a 25 frame sequence, render it, and than make a new PAL project and past that into it?
Thanks Dolph
