if Prores is easier to process in-and-out of camera then why do the major (Sony, Panasonic) camera manufacturers resist to implement
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Not_invented_here
I'm not sure ProRes is fast to encode in camera just because it is fast to decode in computer. Codecs often are asymmetric. Further, a lot of ProRes's ease of decoding is because it lays out the track in a way that's easy to pick up by multicore processors, which a camera may not have.
I myself am actually not a fan of ProRes, because I don't like standards put out, and then held close, by corporations. I would rather just have CinemaDNG, maybe with the option to compress it according to the standard. That's only until the singularity (the one when cards become fast and cheap enough for there to be a single format: uncompressed CinemaDNG).
Even with compressed RAW you see the Not Invented Here Syndrome in effect. CinemaDNG has published a way to compress RAW in its spec. But Canon: no, we will make our own RAW Lite. But Apple: no, we will use our own ProRes RAW.
