GH3 Now that the GH3 is old news, what do we want to see in the GH5?

OK, Somebody had to do it :)

To get the first round of needless kvetching out of the way, there won't be a GH4 because the Japanese word for "four" sounds like the word for "death".

Now that the GH3 is starting to show up in a few shooters' hands, what improvements do we want to see in the GH5?

My list of features we should have seen in the GH3:
- focus peaking, focus peaking, focus peaking
- dual card slots
- at least one XLR jack on the battery grip
- 4:2:2 color space out of the HDMI, like the D800
- Built in NDs

My list of features the GH5 should have to stay at the leading edge in 2014-2015:
- RAW output - at least 2K, 4K would be better
- Global shutter
- Higher data and frame rates would be nice, but not absolutely necessary

What's your list? Panasonic seems to have listened to us last time.

I highly doubt you will ever get built-in ND filters in a hybrid cam. Same for XLR on the grip. I think 4:2:2 out of HDMI would be great, but only as long as you can still record to SD cards unlike the D800.

Agree with Gary....doubt the ND filters and XLR.
Possibly an on board 4:2:2 option by that time...wouldn't doubt it one bit, since we are talking 2 years or more from now.

I think pani will change the ergonomics all together and put out something similar to the c100 for the next hybrid. There's just to much demand out there to continue making cameras without pro features.

It's the consumer division...I doubt we will see something like the C100 from the GH series- The price would be too high and they would lose all those stills/video shooters who aren't using the camera the way most on this board do.
The AF series is Pannys closest thing to the C100. They need to explore improving that line in the next couple of years.

Did the GH4 already came out too? I guess it happened so fast I did not notice! The only thing to really worry now is to first get the GH3 and make money with it. The GH5 will be out in 2016.

A GH5 thread? But what about the GH3 Hack?

Focus peaking is something Panny said they might implement in a firmware update. They're considering it. 2 years and a new model to get something they could do now? So if you want that, push for it now.
As for an XLR jack in the battery grip, here's a (very) quick mockup I did a while back for the GH2.

What about a GH4 hack! Let's not forget about the GH4 please! As far as this thread goes is out there already!

Well, the OP says:

Sounds silly to me. And not all companies avoid the #4:

Nikon F4
Nikon D4
Nikon D40
Nikon D40X
Canon 40D
Canon 400D
Canon 450D
Canon 1D Mark IV

Then again, Panasonic seems to avoid it, with the exception being the 4 in Micro 4/3 of course.

Oh, ok, it makes sense to me. We all know how superstitious the Japanese are.... But who cares about whatever is called 2 years from now. I am worried about getting the $1300.00 I need for when my GH3 arrives at the camera store I put my pre-order at.

In order of priority...

1. Global shutter sensor, CCD or CMOS I don't care. Just get rid of that damnable flash banding.

2. AVC-LongG recording in camera (hackable to higher bitrates)

3. LESS moire and aliasing than the GH2.

4. Dynamic Range matching the BMCC.

5. 1.85 and 2.39 framing guides in both EFV and LCD.

6. Dual card slots, user switchable between Safety and Relay recording.

7. NO incerase in price over the current GH3's pricing.
