NOW SHIPPING Redrock LiveLens MFT - Canon EF Lens Compatibility for Micro Four-Thirds

Are you noticing a lag when changing aperture? How much time do get out of those IDX with all those gadgets connected?

There is maybe a .25 second lag maybe less (how quick can you push and release smoothly?), it is very similar feel as when you turn the iris wheel on the camera each click on the camera wheel is a button push I think, this is holding the Iris button down on the camera so the iris is actually moving. I will post some video in a bit, so you can see and hear for yourself, will call out each push/release of the button. The thing to bear in mind is that it is when you release the button that the iris reacts in the lens and this seems instantaneous, not the push down, very much like on a computer mouse click it is MousUp that triggers the action.

Powering everything from 2 110w IDX batteries stacked (this is a normal setup for me, you can get much bigger bats as well from AB or IDX) should last at least 4 hrs (a single would be 2 hrs), that is using the full 55watts. Most of the time you don't use anywhere near that wattage. Usually 2 batts last me a full day. I also use the IDX batteries to power LED lights on stands and portable monitors, so I only need one type of battery and charger in my kit.

The AF100 is about 15w
NanoFlash 3-8w
The EVF 2.5w
My Sola ENG 30w max I rarely use it on full brightness it is very bright and it is usually not on all the time.
My guess is the LiveLens is 1-2w and much less when not changing the iris, 99% of the time.

The dual 110w batts also really help balance the rig when on the shoulder.

This all sound very encouraging, thanks Olof. We have many of the same items in our rigs, including your Nano mounting kit. Your D-tap cable must look like a Medusa with all of those different connectors at the other end.
Are you saying that you can connect the LiveLens to a 12v power source?

Hey Olof,
Glad to hear it's all working out now. Sorry to hear about your initial problems, but now that it's all up and running I hope you enjoy your set up. As always we're here to help you wherever we can!

Chervas: Yes the unit can accept a 12v source.

Here is a video of how the LiveLens works on my 70-200.

It is a bit shaky but I was at 200mm and punching the buttons does move the lens a bit.

I find the LL very responsive and easy to work.

This video was shot 1080 but is compressed and shrunk for Vimeo using FCPX Share to Vimeo feature. No CC.

Thanks for the report Olof

totally off topic, it looks like the fall foliage is coming in? Looking forward to some fall shots!

Cheers

Brian, yes the foliage is just starting here in the valley. A little north and in the notches it is almost peaking.

I am very pleased with the LiveLens and I will put it to good use in the next few colorful weeks here in this psychedelic nature show. It is such a joy to actually be able to use my L's in my AF100. I highly recommend your product to anyone who has a lot of EF L glass. Congratulations on being the first to ship this essential adapter.

Here is a live shot from our webcam, it is updated every hour. You can check the foliage.

Correct anatusa,

The LiveLens MFT can currently only power the aperture control portion of EF lenses, giving you the most important control though.

Thanks Olaf, It look to work very smoothly.
After all this time to see the square clean corners of an image out of an AF100 with a Canon L lens. Who would have thought that this could be possible?
Incidentally, I found myself really enjoying your osprey video photo-montage. This "living thing" it really is good sometimes.

I really like our redrock adapter as well.

Just an FYI it does not work with two canon tilt shift lenses (17mm v2 L and 24mm L) that I tested it out with.

All of our others (thats I have tested) work great with it.

Gonna try and figure out a way to power it from our AB battery plate.

Connectivity group,

What was the issue you had with the 17mm? I was able to get it to work with the one we have, although I'm not sure which version it is.

If this adapter or the Birger had come in the beginning of this year they both would have been very desirable. But since I've already got fast glass for the AF with manual aperture rings, only aperture is not as interesting. Only if an adapter can communicate with the camera it's interesting since I can use all EF glass pretty much just like I do with Lumix lenses. So IMHO this adapter is to little, to late for me.

battery problems with the LiveLens mount for the AF100

battery problems with the LiveLens mount for the AF100

I have a strange problem with this unit. The battery only is good for about an hour. Then the numbers dim and the unit won't respond. When I reset the battery, the numbers come on, but not for long. I've tried reconnecting the cables as well. I've used three batteries so far and the same thing happens. If I turn the unit on and off again, I see the numbers and sometimes I can get the aperture numbers to change without seeing a corresponding change to the image. I'm not sure if the batteries are actually draining or if there is something else going on. Has anyone else encountered this?

Contact RR they were very good about sending me a new power supply overnight. They may replace your whole unit, but it sounds like the cable may have a short. Also make sure the battery really snaps onto the contacts. My power unit had a cut in the cable and as I said RR sent me a new unit over night. It is now running flawlessly.

For me anyway this is a perfect unit I can now use my best lenses easily with my AF100, the 24-70 f2.8L will probably be my standard lens from now on. The lack of IS is not critical to me and I never really like using auto focus or control from within the camera. I would prefer an Iris ring but the LiveLens works very well.

Thanks for the responses. I think it may be a cable issue as I just noticed the cable going into the battery compartment is exposed. I'll contact them.
