Now I know why they're called "dead"lines

Because as soon as you get one, that's when all your equipment dies :(

RIP my external HDD and praying my powerbook (on its last legs) can deliver one more project. Thankfully this will pay me enough to replace them but oh man I would have been much happier if it went two weeks or so longer

Did you try freezing your hard drive? I recovered all my data with that trick. Zip up your hard drive inside 2 ziploc bags and shove it in the freezer for a couple of hours.

Absolutely. Took me about 10 cycles of freezing and refreezing, but I got back every last byte of a 500 gig drive. A very common drive failure is when the read arm starts crashing into the platters and I guess freezing it makes the metal contract back into place. Once it heats up again it will crash again and fail, so you have to re-freeze. If your drive starts booting up and then you hear a CLUNK - CLUNK, and then failure, this trick should work. Just watch out for condensation. Some people recommend wrapping the drive in paper towels as well, but I skipped that because I like to live dangerously.

I've been able to recover the most important data (related to this project) by just letting it rest. Freezing would be the next step, but the problem is I just don't have room for it, I don't have anywhere to put it. But it'll let me finish, which is all I care about.

Freezing... wow...

I honestly would have never though. But it won't make anything crack or get damaged in any way?
