Now I get why youtube went 4k so early - 3D

[Blackout]

So you tube is taking 4k videos now so you can shoot two 1080p pictures and make them work on hdtvs or even as low as crossing your eyes

There should really be 60p by now.

The youtube "Original" quality is probably the best overall streaming quality on the internet. 2k res can go up to 15mb, which looks very good in motion.

3D doesn't support Original quality yet, but to get 1080p, you upload side-by-side 3840x1080 and youtube takes care of the rest.

What determines whether you get the original option or not? Does it just have to have more than 1920x1080 resolution?

More than 1920x1080 or a different pixel aspect ratio. 1920x1080 at 1.33 instead of 1.0 renders a nice "original" anamorphic image.
