Novoflex/Nikkor MF AI f1.4

Now that we are on the Novoflex. I just received mine and have mounted the adapter with the Nikkor. What I am finding is that the Iris ring has to be in the counter clockwise position ie. Iris open to mount the adaptor as per the instructions. When I do this and mount the lens the feel to the focus ring is solid, but the stops on the lens are totally useless, ie, they have no effect. But when I rack focus it makes a very nice transition between the two objects. Now, when I move the iris control on the adapter to the closed postion the stops come into effect, but the feel to focus ring is more loose, and make a slight sound. And not only does it feel more loose, but when I rack focus on two objects the image seems to shift a bit sideways. This is a used Nikkor from Ebay and am wondering if there is something wrong with it? And how is everyone using the Iris control ring on the adapter. Thanks!

I can't speak about the loose focus, but the image shift is known on many lenses, specifically older lenses (that being old in design and old in years of use). My 35 1.4 AIS does it significantly and my 50 1.4 D does it just slightly. However my 24 1.4 AFS, 70-200 2.8 AFS, 17-35 2.8 AFS do not image shift.
