Novice question. In some shots in small area of frame little boxes? What and why?

Thanks in advance. I'm a novice when it comes to the world of dv and I am very impressed with the picture that the 100b creates but in some shots in a very small part of the frame, especially when there is a bright red object, it seems the picture breaks up into tiny boxes or verticle lines (even had it happen in just one nostril of a head c.u.). I'm shooting 24p advanced with the v-detail set to fine for now. It isn't really noticable to the average viewer but to me I can see it. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to reduce it? What is the technical term for it?

When you're shooting DV, bright colors (especially reds) can cause pixelation (the little boxes). You can eliminate them in your editing application by applying a "chroma blur" filter on the horizontal setting.

Thanks,

Is pixelation common? I've noticed some in the black shadow area of a nostril even? Also with a back lit house I have this obvious purple line running along it's edge. What's that about? What's that called? And can I reduce it in post?

Is there any way to get rid of the pixealation at time of shooting....in camera?
