Noticing strange motion with Varicam & KiProMini

I just noticed that the varicam is duplicating one frame every 3 frames.. so ABCDDABCDD and so on.. how could i fix this and what is causing this?

The VariCam's video output will always be 60p. Whatever frame rate you set the sensor to will have a bit of math applied to duplicate it out so that it will run smoothly at 60p. You remove the excess frames in post. FCP can do this as can most any other NLE. This is known as 3:2 Pulldown Removal or just Pulldown Removal. There are flags attached to the data of the duplicated frames so the program knows which to remove. Do some web searches on this info and I'm sure there will be some tutorials available.

Welcome to the previous decade's technology!

Mitch - i know about pulldown and i know how the varicam SDI feed works.. isn't my first rodeo.. the kipromini has the ability to detect the duplicate frames and give me the 23.98 signal within that 60p stream.. it works great and also lets me do speed ramps and off speed recording as long as i start at 24, im just wondering what i might have hit to cause this issue to happen as it has not happened before.

The point is the Varicam always operates that way. You can't turn that off (I don't think). So if anything changed, it'd be on the KiPro Mini (you must have somehow told it to record all frames including duplicates, instead of just original frames).

That's what I was thinking I might have done. The device is set on VFR as needed for the KiPro to pick up the 24p signal in the SDI signal.. i'm wondering if it might be the write speeds on the CF cards? I know its pertaining to the KiPro NOT the varicam itself.

FIXED IT!

Here was the problem...

In order for the KiProMini to completely remove the dupe frames from the 60p stream to get 24p and ramping, etc is to make sure the userbits in the VTR TC menu is set to TCG and the TCG switch on the side of the camera stay at free run.. problem solved.. took 2hrs of tests for me to figure it out but its fixed!
