Notice: Stolen DVX100

Hey everyone,

It's been a while since I've frequented dvxuser, but I've been forced to make some time to start a topic for an unfortunate reason: my DVX was stolen out of my (new) car yesterday. :( I just wanted to get the word out on the off chance that it shows up online or elsewhere so you don't purchase stolen goods.

It's an original AG-DVX100P (a US model camera), serial number J3TD00031. It was taken in Berkeley, CA.

I lost some other things, too, but fortunately everything is replaceable; it could have been much worse than just a financial loss. Anyway, thanks for keeping an eye out, and thanks again for making this the best forum on the web!

Any time I'm on a shoot I always keep a crappy looking blanket in the truck... then IN ADDITION to keeping my truck LOCKED... I also throw the blanket over my stuff... not carefully like I'm covering something... but all bunchy like it's the top of a pile of crap on the floor.

I'm sorry for your situation... I've had a truck broken into before and it really knocks the wind out of you. I hope it all works out one way or another.

I hate F**king thieves! That sucks ass

Keep that serial number out there and I would watch eBay - Ask any seller with a cam that sounds familiar for serial... Ya never know.

nothing lower than people stealing from other people. A shame.

sorry to hear it dude.

I'm quite sorry for you Pais. I understand what an angry feeling it is. The same thing happened to my friend a few months ago. He left his car unattended for 10mins and someone broke into his locked car and took his DVX including the case with charger & spare batteries. I've alway kept this in mind -When leaving your car unattended put any valuable equipment in the luggage booth not on the rear seat, if you cannot carry anything with you.
But then I am always cautious not to leave valuable equipment (such as a Camera) in the luggage boot while driving just in case of a front to rear collision-which is the most common type of car accident.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. It really is a shame, especially since none of the valuables were visible from the outside, and the car was in a gated residential parking garage. Anyway, I mainly wanted to get the word out so other people do not purchase this stolen camera.

I'll definitely remember not to leave valuable stuff in the car around here (it was my first night after moving here), even if they're not visible from the outside! My mom always did say I liked to learn things the hard way ... :lipsrseal

Man,

I'm really sorry to hear such a thing .... I'm sure it's very frustrating.

Please consider to notice the Police and file a complaint asap, even if they won't be ale to find it for you.

But, when you have your complaint filed (allways keep the case/complaint number written somewhere in your pocket), no matter where your camera might show up, it will be much easier for you to obtain Police support in order to retrieve it.

It might, as well, appear here, in Romania. This in not a joke. Last year, there was a guy who was selling here several used new generation NTSC cams, with or w/o accesories, at excellent prices. Where do you think that stuff came from?

Non-instructed people who do not know that the standard here is PAL, can often buy such things and then never find the seller. Long story ...

In the next period, I will check daily the electronics sale adds on the internet on Romanian sites. If I see something, I will immedialty post on this forum (then we'll figure out a way to help you retrieve you toy --- I'm a lawyer here, so I know what is to be done).

All the best,
Dan

Sorry to hear about that. There are some real assholes out there. Did you have insurance on it? And it you did does it cover theft? If you want I can post that serial number and your contact info on some other boards I am on.

I do the same thing. put the valuable stuff in the back seat of my car covered by some junk.

Sorry Pais... Thats a damn shame.
I doubt he'll sell it on Ebay. If I was you I'd check all the local Thrift shops.
