Nothing happens when I plug my camera to my computer

Hi. My DVX102BE has been working just fine for over a year untill I tryed to hook it up to my computer through firewire today. Nothing happens when I plug it in. I've tryed two different firewire cables, the integrated firewire controller and a PCI firewire controller (I've tried this on two computers aswell) without any luck. I think it is safe to say that it is somethink wrong with my camera, but I think it's strange. The camera has been in my bag inside my closet and then suddenly the firewire stopped working? The connection isnt damaged at all either. Is there some settings or something I could try to change in order to fix this or do I have to send the camera to have it repaired for me?

Check all settings in camera setup just to make sure, but those connectors die pretty regularly. Are you not getting any feed at all? Can you try hooking it up to a different computer? Have you tried different modes with the camera? If none of those do anything, it might just be a dead cable. If you're only using it for capture it will be a lot cheaper to find a low end, used maybe DV camera for $50 or so. Even $100 new would be cheaper from what I understand. This really does happen quite a bit on these cameras.

I've gone through the settings, but there is nothing that helps. As I said I've tryed a different computer and I'm not getting a feed at all. I'll see if I can borrow a dv camera from a friend.

If you're on a mac, connect the camera and turn it on then go to the apple symbol>about this mac>more info>firewire. Then look on the list and see if it is on there. If it doesn't show up, then you may have accidentally blown out the firewire port on your camera. That happened to me once and it cost me about $800 to have the port replaced. It is an easy alternative to just forget about it and use a cheap capture camera, but sometimes you might want to use a firestore hard drive, slave cam or connect to a DV device like a tricaster or for live video feeds.
