Not your average DIY Dollie, Trolly, or Slider.

Awesome :) It seems you've seen my system, but then there's no way you could have ;)

Good work!

Sweet! I like that use of the electrical tubbing. Cheap, easy, and effective. I'd like to see it spray painted and see how it looks all cleaned up. Also test footage would be great!

Thanks guys. It's a pretty heavy duty unit and I bet it could easily support a fully loaded RED ONE. I used it with a fully loaded AF100 with a Hyperdeck Shuttle, rods, mattebox, SmallHD, FF, etc. I only used it on 2 shots in that low budget short and only one made it in the film. I had some problems because I accidentally tightened the two halves together too tight the first time i put it together and got flat spots in the wheels. I was able to smooth out the shot used in the film in post. Anyway I returned the wheels and I'm awaiting new wheels to be shipped. I'm also putting some sort of stopper so it can't accidentally be tightened too much again. I'll ask the set photographer if I can post some pictures from it being used on set.

Here are shots of a similar slider I built this week.

I like your speed rail track. I'll probably end up with something like that in the end. I made mine with wheels on 3 sides so I can use it upside down if need be. It also comes apart so I can use it on the floor, table, or piece of plywood. Does your set up have wheels that pivots so it could go around corners if it had to? That is the only thing I wish my set up did.

What parts are you guys using for your 100mm head mount? That is a great design that could easily be transfered to a hi-hat.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been keeping up with this thread. I used a threaded floor flange like this mounted upside down to a floor drain like this. I believe Pauls solution is an actual Mitchell to 100mm adapter.

Nice work Brian.

Paul,

Is that black flange specifically made as a ball mount or is it something else that just happens to work? Where did you get it?

Brian's looks like a regular plumbing flange.
