Not steady 16x9 in slowmo

Experienced that my letterbox in 16x9 was noticeable flickering/jumping up and down when I slowed down my footage 50 %. I shot several takes with different shutters in 50i. Nothing helped. Ended up shooting my music video in norm aspect, and are adding 16x9 in post. The tests were edited on Final Cut Express. Have also tried it in Avid. Same experience. Just to let you folks know. :-/

Re: Not steady 16x9 in slowmo

I think that the jumping you're noticing is due to the black bar being right on the "interlacing border" as in the edge of the black is between fields. When you slow down the footage, the flicker (which technically is always there) becomes more apparent because it's not happening as quickly.

Is this true? I THINK that's what my problem was....I was editing in 60i with the pulldown applied before editing...

That's my theory, anyways...I always just end up adding a mask regardless for slo-mo effects, rather than using the in-camera letterboxing.
