I am leaving tomorrow night, flying across country to go to my daughter's nationals cheer competition. I want to bring my dvx, but my case is a pelican 1600. I think it is too big to be a carry on. :( So do I check it or use my old camera bag? I dont fly much so I dont know how this works.. Help?..</IMG>

Most people will say carry it on, but I've traveled around the globe with the dvx in a 1650 pelican checked. It survived.

carry it on for sure......if you want you could probably even hand carry it without the bag, and check your pellican with the less vital/sensitive accessories like your charger and whatnot.....

Yeah but at least you'd know where it was at all times. Or put it in a smaller padded bag. I would flip if my luggage was misplaced, and even moreso if it was my camera. If I HAD to check it, I would make sure it was insured against loss.

don't check it, but make sure that you can open your case for security (you have to take the camera out and put it in it's own seperate bin.)

If it helps, I have a Pelican 1450 for my DVX and they let that case on.
1450 - 16x13x7 and the 1600 is 24x19x9

United let me carry on the camera case and a tripod once, just ask at the check in counter.

Thank you for all the info guys, I think I will just take my smaller soft case (it barely fits in there)

How come I never get to relax at my kid's events? I always have to film!! As Adam so rightfully put it "Its the woman you gave me Lord!"
