Normal Focus Ring on 14-140

Hi,

Does the GH2 provide any way to disable the variable speed of the focus ring on Lumix lenses like the 14-140? I.e. make the focus ring behave like most other lenses, where the focus change only depends on how far you turn the ring, and not how fast? I never was able to figure out a way to do this on the GH1, and it is a necessary part of film making when one needs to set marks and manually rack to them as the action of the scene unfolds, and where the speed of the rack must be manually controlled.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure there isn't. The Panasonic Lumix lenses are "drive-by-wire," so the focus ring is electronically linked, but not directly mechanically linked, to the elements in the lens. I'm hoping that over time, I'll get a feel for focusing with the lenses and be able to do a lot of accurate rack focusing--but it's never going to be fully, easily controllable the way typical lenses are.

I believe even most drive by wire lenses behave normally, except the focus ring will turn indefinitely in either direction. But the variable speed focusing seems to be unique to Lumix. In theory I would think that drive by wire would be an awesome opportunity to make a lens with setable focusing behavior - long throw, short throw, accelerating, linear by distance (i.e. turning the same amount changes focus by the same linear distance, super useful for racking moving objects). It is a bummer that not only does Panasonic not seize that opportunity, but they stick us with an oddball method that can't be turned off :(

Are all the Lumix lenses this way? The 45-200mm for example?
