Pretty nasty stuff, what with the past few months having been so dry. I woke up to a ass load of thunder on Sunday morning and immediately thought (after my normal morning thought of "GO BACK TO SLEEP DUMBASS!") "Oh boobies, this is not going to go down well."
Looks like I was right, theres a fat smoke cloud over most of NorCal. The light this morning was pretty red, and there is a very limited amount of blue sky right now. Theres a evac order aboot 20 miles north of us, about 60 miles south of us and then all over the rest of Mendocino county. Sac Town looks pretty bad too, as does most of the greater Lake Tahoe area. 3 of the 6 fire planes deployed in NorCali are working Mendocino right now, and, so far, it looks as if the Mendo fires have been the msot costliest to fight because of the rugged terrain. Some are even being left to just burn since there too hard to access.

Later and hope everyones keeping safe,

Yea, I'm down in the Sacramento/Bay Area (live near Sacramento, work near San Francisco) ... and the sky is pretty gray and the sun shining through is very red.

Hope they can get these under control soon

I was wondering if someone was going to bring this up. The fires aren't just in Northern California, either, 800 were started by lighting just in this state alone. Where I live, which is situated in a valley of sorts, I am surrounded by fires (the closest being probably 30 miles away) but the smoke settles around my house and I can't even go outside without coughing. I'll see if I can get a picture. My local realty office is taking donations for the fire crews, they trule are heroes and my heart goes out to them and all the families who's lives and homes have been threatened or taken completely.

I was contemplating going and shooting some fire footy to sell to Fox or CNN, but I realized that if I werent sick and could venture out into the smoke, I'd be better off actually helping the fire crews. But news companies do pay alot to not have to drive.... :-P.

Fighting fires requires special training to ensure the safety of the individual and the team he/she is working with ... shooting pictures/footage doesn't have this same restriction.

So, donate some money to your local Red Cross/Fire Station and go shoot some footage/photos.

Just my $0.02

I sympathize with you guys. With it being so dry we're expecting a bad fire season in August/September down here.

Wow, now I can not venture outside for more then about 30 seconds before i start coughing like a mad man. Theres been quite a few hellis buzzing around since yesterday afternoon. The smoke is mixing with fog now, and theres been some ash in the air. I'm off to my summer job in the Sierra Nevada tomorrow, but I still worry for all the people in the fires path.

Man, I can totally sympathize with you. It is really bad here as well. Everytime I go outside it looks like the foggiest day ever, but it is just smoke. Yesterday we took a trip up to Yosemite (we live so close, why not?) and it was even worse there. Looking off the road into the valley you couldn't see a thing, it was terrible. I definitly felt the effects.

I took this picture of the sun through the smoke a couple of days ago, and it has gotten worse since then. I'll see if I can snap a few more today.

Hah, I can barley see a lighter spot in the sky cause of the smog. Hey, thats why they call it smog! SMoke fOG! OMG I AM SO SMART!

Looks like somewhere in mendo actually got an evac order. Three or four evac warnings have been lifted.
