(noob) Rename and organize clips - best way

Hello everyone -
I'm new to the P2 workflow. I just picked up an HVX200. I've loaded the P2 Viewer and driver, and am wondering what the best way is to organize my clips (eg: rename), and how or if that affects the sound files. Can I rename within Winblows Explorer, or do I need to do it within P2 viewer etc.?
And if I need to send selective clips to my editor, how can I do that?

(sorry for the basic questions!)

thanks!

i wouldnt advise renaming P2 material. there are just too many ways to mess it up. just name and manage your project folders well and the seemingly nonsensical P2 naming convention wont be an issue

I just read through Barry Green's writeup on the P2 naming convention. I understand a bit more about the complexity of changing the names of the clips. However, that doesn't solve my problem of needing to deliver specific clips to different editors, captured on the same card. And also archiving - if I can't rename the clips, how can I separate them for archival (having a meaningful folder name, at least)?

im not sure what NLE youre using. but in FCP you have the option of renaming when you log and transfer.
however i never do. i just capture it as its named to a SPECIFIC folder that i designate on my system. never been a problem, regardless of whos using it or where its going.

Well I don't edit, so don't have an NLE. And due to the nature of my work I'll need to split the clips and deliver to different people.

it should have started in pre-pro where you use the P2 software to make naming prefixes and save that to the SD card in the camera. but you may have to export each clip out of P2CMS individually THIS time.

OK I believe I figured out what I was looking for. I just created a directory on my HDD and added it as a virtual drive within P2 Viewer, then used the copy/paste function between my two virtual drives for the specific clips I needed. Now I can send that new directory to my editor.

I will take a stab at using the prefix naming function in the future. Thanks guys! Great site/forum... I'm searching like a madman trying to get up to speed!
