so im going to buy a cheap handycam to upload my footage to save my heads, is it possible to just connect my camera right to my macbook pro, or do i need to plug it into something and then from plug that something into my computer?

Depending on your MacBook Pro, and what FW ports are available, you may need to get a FW800>4-pin FW400 cable... other than that, it's plug and play.
