What is the maximum and minimum framers per second that you can film with using the DVX100a? I'm hoping to buy one in the near future and I'm looking to film at fast frame rates and play them back so I have some nice slow motion footage.
Technically, the fastest framerate (full progressive frames) you can shoot per second would be 30. Shooting 30p and slowing down 80% to 24p gives you full frames at full resolution with a slight slow motion. You can also shoot 60i then import into a 24p timeline, slow it down to 60% and you will get some pretty good slomo, but at a slight resolution loss.
How do most film directors do really good slow slow motion, a la Matrix, etc.
Can you not get your camera to shoot at a faster speed, like 100 frames pers second, then play it back at 30? Or is 60i the highest you can do with digital?
Is it film that does slo-mo the best cause you can record at any speed? Thx,sorry for all the Qs.
You got it pretty much right on. yes film, depending on the camera, and the film used, can record at 100'ds of frames per second. For mini DV cameras, 60i is the fastest temporal resolution that one can achieve. Now there are cameras out there, mostly used in the medical field or other scientific studies that can shoot much, much faster. But yes, that is how movies like the matrix achieve their slowmotion, however, 60i can produce some pretty nice slowmo.
Alright man, thanks for the info. I don't need that slow, but I want a nice "walking towards the camera slow motion shot" that has some style you know.
60i shound like it should do this anyone.
Anyone have a some sample video of DVX going 60i slow motion footage?
I'm working on a film right now that I just used that exact technique last weekend, it came out beautifully. I shot some 30p for slow mo and some 60i. Both came out better than expected.
