Noob question about shrinking layers

I have a psd with one layer that is the top of the desk (pic of my workdesk)
I cut n pasted another layer into it so now I have one layer of my desk and another layer that I want to appear to be ON the desk.

The layer that needs to be ON the desk is too big, Can I shrink the top layer ??
(without affecting the desk layer?)

PS CS5

Select your layer and try hitting CTRL-T to do a transform. Then hold Shift and drag out one of the corners to resize. Then hit Enter or the move tool to exit the transform.

Or from the menu in CS2 go to Edit->Transform->Scale.

Thanks Gord, your way is certainly a lot easier than what I did.
Converted the layer to a smart object which opened a new version of just that layer, then I shrank that layors image size and cut and pasted back into the original.

So yea, your way is a little bit easier ;-)

Thanks

Your welcome. I just spent 7 hours trying to figure how to do something in a new program that only takes a minute once you know how.

So no problem man. I hear ya.
