Noob question about a Nikon Lens & 8gb card for D90

Me and some friends are going to be shooting a music video this weekend. I own the Nikon 50mm f1.8 Lens for my D90. I only bought it because it was like the cheapest new Nikon Lens and it was listed as one of the top 10 Nikon Lens on that Kenrockwell site or whatever. I was just wondering what the Lens does well and what doesn't it do well before I shoot. I've always just shot on like $100 mini DV cameras. I've never used a Lens before and have never had a camera without a zoom (lens), so this is all new to me.

2nd question, how much video can I shoot on one 8GB Sandisk card in 720p on the D90?

it does everything well, but it's a short tele on dx, about the same as zooming in almost half way on your minidv, so you'll probably want something wider. good luck.

8GB Sandisk card should give you Approx;

5 mins clips = 500mb
500mb / 8gb = x 16 clips
16 clips x 5 mins = 80mins

NOTE: This will vary because D90 does not capture @ a constant bitrate
