Noob af100 questions

Hi guys, I a thinking of adding a 101 to my kit. I shoot with a 5d but could use something with better ergonomics and workflow and the option to use af with the panasonic kit lens.

My questions are:

1. Is the quality of the af100 better than the 5d. i undestand that it has less aliasing etc. But is the overall quality and compression better. I find that the 5d can be a bit lacking when it comes to fine detail and pictures can look a bit mushy. If it isn't then what format does one have to jump to to get a significant increase in quality and bitrate ?

2. If the 100 has a 50% crop then presumably for a wide of say 24mm with the cverage or field of view of a 24mm lens, one would have to use a 12mm lens. Surely this would make for a very distorted image ?The last time i used 14mm lenses and the like the extreme perspective you get is all but useless for just about every application you care to mention.

1. The AF will be better than a 5D when it comes to resolved image but there are other things a 5D does better.
2. The easiest way of using wider images is to back up the camera further away from what you are shooting to preserve the same framing as you get with a full frame camera like 5D. If you want a 35mm on the 5D pick a 25mm on the AF and back it up a little. Combine the two and end up with the same framing.

1. While in my subjective opinion I feel the AF100 is better I believe for a "significant increase in quality and bitrate" you may need to make a significant dollar investment in the Red or Alexia. The main advantages of the AF100 over the 5D are XLR audio input, variable frame rates at full HD, Long record times, ND filters, just about any lens with the right adaptor can go on. Check out some footage on the Screen Grabs/Footage-AF100 link above.

2. I have used a 14mm lens on the AF100 with no obvious distortion in landscape shots, but agree If I was to use the same lens on a 5D the distortion would be very obvious. Have a look at Filippo Chiesa examples with a 14mm lens on Vimeo.com/18734699

The resolution of the cameras appears similar, about 700 lines. The 100's sensor is roughly 1/4 the size (surface area) of the 5d's making focus potentially much easier.
