I'd like to comment on the good/not good actor thing, if I may. As a well trained actor, but decided early on that I didn't like the celebrity of acting, went to writing. It isn't so much the actor, as it is the director. There are way too many people that by hook or crook, got/get to wear a directors hat. Like acting, directing either comes naturally, or one has a gift for it. There are way too many people wanting the celebrity of acting, to be good actors. Hope that makes sense. I liken both to Evander Holyfield, he isn't a natural boxer like Mike Tyson, but he sure as hell learned to be a great boxer. Same is said for both actors and directors. Actors take classes, and hopefully directors do too. It is up to either you as director, or your casting director to pick the best actor. As for pay, Lee Stokes hit it dead on. Be honest up front. From the writing POV, make sure your script is tight, characters are interesting, defined and top of the echelon of actors will work for the role. That means, FREE. And it doesn't have to be a feature. Many like to polish their craft on a short film. Keeps them tip-top for their next feature. Remember, only one percent of SAG make a living at acting. Hope I didn't step on any toes with my blathering.
