Forgive me I'm new here.... I'm not sure where to place this. I kind of wanted to ask the Panasonic G1 crowd..... but anyway... I have the US versions of the HDC-SD1PP (and HDC-DX1P). The international versions shoot PAL (50i) rather than the NTSC 60i. I've never heard talk of firmware hacks for this camera/s which would be nice but I'm wondering if it's simple enough to flash international firmware onto it, say the Japanese version for example to get this feature? I'm getting really close just to buying one of these off ebay international but I figured I might as well ask. These cameras are kind of unique in that they have 1/4 CCD's and will output in uncompressed HDMI or component. With good lighting (outdoors) they can stand up quite nicely to the DVX's. (at least if you're not using the 13 megabit AVCHD coding). I'm quite happy with them and believe they are a real steal for the price. I like the "look" of the CCD's and the large lens for a "consumer" camera. They have certainly served me well as quality Japanese electronics have and still work flawlessly. I just believe they might still have some old tricks left in them. (And I'm quite aware of any warranty implications.)
Incidentally I downloaded the Japanese firmware pack from Panasonic and (I think) it updated something but it did not change the language panel which I was expecting. Thanks for reading. Any feedback is appreciated. If I wasn't broke I'd get an HMC150 and never look back but for that kind of money there are A LOT of less expensive ways to improve my projects! Thanks!
