Noisy zoom

Hey, do you ever get the zoom motor sound caught on the film? When I do a full speed zoom in or out, the zoom motor sounds so much you can hear it in the recorded film.

Live with it or return camera to be serviced? A drop of oil?

PS. Happy New Year everyone here!!!

A good quality shotgun microphone in the external mount or for better isolation a Rode Microphones SM3 Hot Shoe Shock Mount NTG1/NTG2 or equivelent. The built-in microphones are not very helpful. This was the same with the DXX100. I never use them.

Hey Brian - have you tested the SM3 on the HMC150 for camera-mounted sound? I've been using a K-Tek KSM on-camera shoe mount with normal bands (not soft bands) for an AKG CK93 and we're experiencing quite a bit of handling noise, which runs contrary to the whole point of isolation of course.

Jared,
I have been using the SM3 for a year and a half on my DVX100b in mostly "run and gun" scrum situations. I use an ME66/K6 and have not had an issue. The main purpose of the mic however is for room/applause etc. audio. I either run a hard wire or wireless mic or audio source to my other channel.
This has been the sum of my experience with the SM3 which I bought after having the same experience as Stefan.
Wish I could be of more help.

this has always been my first complaint about the camera- Pana turned up the sensitivity on the onboard mic, which in most circumstances is a good thing. But on the 150 it picks up too much motor noise in quiet environments. I had to mount a shotgun on top of the cam and that pretty much got rid of 90% of the noise. Mic is a Rode NTG2 with an Azden shockmount.
