noisy zoom

sorry this is a double post. i originally posted in dvx100 general, but considering the technical nature of my problem, i thought i might have a better chance among viewers in this section!

i notice that when i zoom in my dvx100b makes a quiet noise that is picked up by my on-board mic when i'm shooting quiet scenes. at the moment when the zoom-in reaches 99%, the apparatus briefly makes a louder sort of stuttering or burping sound.

however when i zoom out, this sound does not occur, except when i reach 0%, at which point the burping sound is also made. does anyone else experience these sounds when they zoom? shouldn't this function be perfectly silent?

i noticed this problem quite a while ago, but i can't remember when it started. i'm pretty sure that the camera didn't make this noise originally when i got it. is it possible that trying to zoom manually without first switching the zoom button from servo to manual could cause this problem? what about trying to use manual focus without first switching the focus button from auto to manual? i may have once accidentally done one of those things to cause the problem, although i would have only made this mistake once and for a very brief moment during shooting. if i did do one of these things, can anyone give me an educated guess as to which is more likely to be the cause? can this problem be fixed?
