Noisy Picture

Hi,

i've just shot a commercial on the DVX100A, and i have problems with the quality of the images; they have a lot of overall noise, especially in the darker areas and that noise/grain is not something i would desire for a production like that. while there's not much i can do at this moment i was hoping i could get some advice for the future.
i was shooting in 24p advanced, with low gain (i'm sure it was on low). lighting was quite adequate (outside day shots, hmi's and kinos inside). i've learned that having cinelike-d gamma setting makes the picture more noisy, yet it doesn't quite explain it.

i know 24p is more demanding than 30i, i'm not quite ready to give up on it yet but i need to get crisper images. could anyone give me some tips on that? i'm including a screenshot with the post.

Is the noise general or confined to mostly to the blue channel?

Where was your master pedestal set?

i don't know if it's in the blue channel, is there a way to check it in fcp without a proper external monitor?

master pedestal at -5.

I am not a FCP user, so I can't give you specific instructions, but the process to check involves reducing the gain of the Green and Blue channels to zero.

A master pedestal of -5 seems perfectly reasonable, I suspect that you will discover that your noise is predominately in the blue channel based upon your description of the environment that you shot in.

By the way, your screen shot is missing from your first post. This might be useful to see what is happening.
