HPX250: Noisy in wide angle shots?

directr,
I'm guessing, the autofocus problem that you're referring to is the excessive hunting that the autofocus sometimes does, depending upon the particular situation?
This autofocus performance is not really a problem but a result of the physics of an incredibly long lens that the HPX250 has. There is a lot of glass to move around
and at the telephoto end of the lens this can sometimes take a little longer than expected.

I don't see how this contributes to a noisy picture, actually if the picture were out of focus the noise would be less visible to some degree.

It seems to me that the downsampling to 720 by the camera is magnifying this issue.
Like you said not scientific, but certainly visible even by casual viewing.

Here is a link that has gone over this and says what you are seeing to a point. I have not noticed it that much for what I do. Also here is a link to some of the best work done on this camera I have seen (or that I like myself). Here is another sample that I like. I guess in the end what you will be shooting will decide what you use. Also I have noticed over the years, most well 98% of all people watching never notice. I notice because I look at the same video over and over for days.
Then I show my wife what I started with, and what I have finished with that took me hours to clean up, and she goes "I don't see what you are talking about, it looks the same". One plus to being married :-), she tells it like it is.
