Noisy Autofocus lenses - Working around it for video?

Hi, I'm considering buying a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 DX 2 for my nikon D5300 and some nikkor lenses with AF-S (Autofocus motor).

It red and saw on youtube that their autofocus system makes loud noise. So i was wondering: How do you work around the noise so it does not show up in your videos if you are shooting people talking and you wan't to record it, or you want to record yourself with a Zoom H1 next to the camera?

1. Don't put the microphone on the camera. Get it as close as possible to the people speaking.
2. Don't use auto focus. The 11-16mm should have fairly deep depth of field, so you probably don't need to vary the focus much anyway.
 
I dont know any serious about video who uses AF. always manual focus.
a seperate mp3 recorder /lavalier mic near the subject is the proper way.

use a tripod or monopod and adjust fine focus manually. usually if the subject is in the same place, you dont know need to play with the focus at all. especially a wa lens.

I like to use a 50 or an 85 for proper dimensions but if you need to use a WA lens, try not to place the subject towards the edges as it will stretch/warp their faces.
 
FYI: Olympus has their MSC technology standard that ensures that their AF lenses are quiet enough to record audio while focusing. So always look for the MSC logo on the lens if you shoot video.

Panasonic doesn't appear to differentiate which Micro 4/3 lenses have AF that is quiet enough for audio recording, but most appear to be ok.

Yes, I realize this. I just wanted mention that other manufacturers have taken lens AF noise into account when they design their lenses.

For example Canon has created a line of STM lenses that are far quieter than their USM lenses when it comes to audio recording while the AF is active. ( see video below )
