Noisy 4k

I know some of you have discussed this before, but I feel the noise level on the ProRes is a significant amount higher than the raw.

I'm using PP4 , which might have something to do with it.

Anyone else seeing higher amount of noise in their footage? Obviously compared to HD it's going to have more... but I did notice a significant change that I'm seeing when shooting interior with no extra light source. Even with extra light source, the shadows seems to dance with noise.

Note : Using Odyssey 7Q, with newest FW

Depending on the noise reduction/debayer method used on your PC, you may get a better result when creating your prores proxy.

The Odyssey 7Q has to run on battery power vs your PC sucking down 100+watts. Of course you can process the footage better on your PC. You'll have to weigh the time vs quality to see if it's right for your production though.

Yea, the raw is a beast :-)... but the quality is amazing. And running it through Adobe Camera Raw helps processing it nicely.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong, or there was a simple setting I could modify to help.

What are you viewing the raw in? A lot of raw viewers have denoising on by default... Also computers software likely has better debayer algorithms than the 7q as it has more cpu+gpu power and fewer time requirements. 7q has to do it in real time with passive cooling and a small form factor, computer software has none of those limitations.

so you are Recording ProRes 4K2HD or 4K ProRes in REC709 on the Odyssey? It's a bad choice and not suitable at all imho. It's noisy as you already found out but also it crashes blacks very fast, it blows the highlights and still has an issue with purple highlight edges. As long as C-D is not able to bring out a firmware with loadable and recordable luts it's either RAW or ProRes sLOG2 what brings you good results.
