Hi
A quick search turned up this thread
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthrea...-Reduction-Software&highlight=noise+reduction
So it seems Neat video makes a very good product, but downloaded the 'home' version demo and found out it only works in 8bpc.
I get a message in a pop-up
'Please purchase a license for the Pro edition to enable high-bitdepth rendering'

So apparently if you want higher bit depths you need to get the 'pro' version at twice the price.
Is it worth it?

For the same price as the 'home 'version of Neat you can also get Magic Bullet DeNoiser.

I know its recommended practice to remove noise as a first step in your post workflow and also to work in a bit depth greater than 8 bits but are there any other specific tips , techniques, or settings users can share on the topic of noise removal in AE?

I say, call them, tell them your concerns about buying and not liking. If they offer you to be able to return it, voila! But other than that, I say, and always say get it the best you can in camera, the first time!

Ive been working with various noise reduction techniques. Since I have the production suite I've been using photoshop to remove noise and increase sharpening. Mostly I was just playing around because I was curious of the results, but for shorter clips without too much movement I found some great results.

how do you do that between premiere and photoshop?

Whats the advantage of using Photoshop??

"Already owning it".

Though it does a decent job of NR, I think you'll find AE's built-in noise reduction superior, especially if you read up on it, check the tutorials, etc. Having the ability to select noise areas for the reduction to calculate is cool, and being able to have it make noise reduction judgements over time make it more video-centric.

That said, 90% of the time I use neat video. It removes noise based on camera profiles which are easy to create and they come up on a popup menu within the effect. It cleans and sharpens in one go, and renders way faster than AE's filter. I've been on a huge keying project with HMC150 footage, some of which was darker than ideal. I generally pull my keys (several layers and holdout masks), prerender, and then render that footage with neat video. Looks good, though overdoing it can get a little plastic-ey.

I'd see if Neat would credit you the non-pro price, tell 'em you purchased by mistake. A hundred bucks is a good deal for this plugin.
