Noise Noise Noise!

Okay, here's one just for Danilo, Emanuel and Haakon... if we're gonna maxx out the noise it's going to be in low-light scenes right?

I have some footage that's all shot in dark-background low-light circumstances with a smoke-filled atmosphere. Some of it is HVX, some of it is 16mm film which was telecine'd to DV. Note: no post-production done on any clip, no color correction or contrast adjustment or anything of any type. This is the DV tape straight from the telecine, and the HVX footage right off the cards.

Can you guess which clips are which?

Guess quick though, because at the end it reveals which were HVX and which were film.

yea barry can you post some quicktime files?

I hate this cross platform crap. Quicktime looks and runs like crap on PCS, WMV looks and runs like crap on my pretty mac

thanks

Barry, by the way, what is that light which is in the second clip there in that smoke-filled atmosphere? How powerful it is and what kind of light it is? Sorry, off topic.

Got it right. Grain still looks different than noise... But here's the real question...

What about those of us that don't like grainy 16mm film? LOL! I know I'm the only one, but still. I like some grain, 35mm for example, but I don't like the grainy 16mm film look. Is this really in vogue??

By the way, I like the digital footage better...

Matt

Berry, I shall not reveal the deal but I must say the HVX image quality is like night and day! Nice!!!!

Ah ah! I'm excited to be Danilo! :) Be Danilo also you it's funny! :) It's like "BE John Malkovich"...All the community filled with Danilos! Popping and dancing around here! Ahhahaa LOL
Thanks a Lot Barry, I've now downloaded the clip.
My thoughts about it:
1) Is the telecine process explained in the clip about projecting to a wall the 16mm film then record with the camera? Or it's obtained from a professional machine? It's very noisy and grainy...
2) Finally I've seen the original framerate of karate guy! My slow damned pc!:)
Have you thought to do a video with low light situation? Turn off the light, set a lamp to a subject (not the Green Monster, I've still nightmares after watch it!:), light two of three cigaretters, wait till smoke has filled the room, finally shoot the beauty!...Then check a doctor! :)
I've thoughts about noise in DvcproHd, still can't understand if the test about noise made by you (with Dv gray test..) in Dv format show the same amount of noise of DvcproHd (1080 and 720).
I believe they're different beast, don't you think Barry? The noise texture that pops out in dv mode is different when the camera it's in dvcproHd mode, I'm pretty sure of it!

And...love you for your help and care! I must send you another gift via e-mail soon! :)
Barry for president! But....hey he's already a sort of president here...LOL
So go away Bush! We want Barry Green!:)
