Noise in the UX180

I did a quick demo of the UX180 and the footage I shot indoors in HD seemed rather noisy at 0db in low light at f4.5. The blacks seemed buzzy with a lot of grain. Did I have it set up incorrectly or is it indeed noisy in HD. The DVX200 seemed to be much cleaner which has me thinking perhaps I needed to be in high sense mode or something on the UX. After reading some of the comments here on the Sony Z150 I am leaning more towards the Panasonic line for the first time since the days of M2.

At the same settings, the UX and DVX will be generally comparable in noise. If you're shooting in low light, HIGH SENS is a great option. There's also a NR CONTROL feature that lets you determine how much noise reduction to apply, and it makes a massive difference on how much grain there is in the picture.

The NR must have been off as the image looked like a camera from the old days in lower light at 0db. Does NR soften the over all image quality or is it strictly supressing noise. Do they both offer the High sense or is that new to the UX? Wish I'd had more time to play with the UX.
Thnx for the feedback.

DVX200 and UX180 both have HIGH SENS. UX90 doesn't. And the NR depends on how aggressive you set it. If it's at minimum, the image will be noisy. If it's at maximum, the image can be softer, colors can be flatter, and you might see ghosting artifacts on very high contrast edges. So you have to pick the setting based on which bothers you more, the presence of noise or the artifacts; the default is halfway up the scale. But each change makes a pretty big difference in the image.
