noise for mac users

seems like a cool program..i dl'd the demo for FCP...but for $150 there are cheaper alternatives out there....

I'd be interested in trying those cheaper alternatives.

I've tried JES Video Cleaner and found it didnt work great for D90 artifacts.

core melt has some plugins for FCP for under $100....

just google de-noise or noise reduction plugins for FCP or whatever you use....alot of these offer demos...

but $150 is really expensive for one plug-in....given its prob one of the most important plug-ins/ filters for improving video but if you have the money go for it...

Does anyone know if these de-noise filters reduce image sharpness and clarity, and if they do, how much? The reason I ask is that when I read online reviews for a lot of Blu-ray releases, there are some films that have excessive noise reduction which causes a hit to resolution and clarity of the image.

I would guess that it depends on what settings you use with your noise reduction filter as well.

By definition, noise reduction is almost always going to reduce resolution/sharpness somewhat. How much depends on the sophistication of the software and the person using it properly or not. With the better noise reduction plug-ins, there are controls to sample an area of the image that contains just noise and not valued detail, and then there are lots of controls to tweak exactly how much reduction it does.
