Noise cancelling headphones

Any thoughts on using these on location, might they be advantageous in noisy locations for corporate work giving a true feed of what the camera mics are picking up?

Active noise canceling, like what Bose uses, is terrible for location recording. It changes the sound too much, so you aren't actually listening to a true representation of what you're recording. Passive noise canceling cans like the ones linked above are way better. They cancel noise by adding noise-absorbing material in the cups.

Really, there are only two ways to deal with noisy environments. First is, quiet the environment (lower your noise). Second is, get your mics closer to the signal source (raise your signal). Either one will give you a better signal-to-noise ratio.

But don't use noise canceling headphones for critical monitoring work. They take stuff out that you need to hear.

As was mentioned you want noise isolating headphones not active noise canceling ones. They are not real comfortable for wearing a long time but...

Dialog editors (who often end up 3-4 to a room) used to wire up headphone transducers inside of heavy construction ear protectors, which is basically what isolating headphones are.
