Noise at 0db gain?

I was under the impression that having the camera set on 0 gain should result in having a noise free image. However, after shooting some indoor footage the other day (1080 24p) I noticed the presence of noise. Is this normal? Maybe I have something set wrong. Or maybe I've been looking at too much 7D footage lately.

A few questions: What scene file did you use? Did you black balance? And have you ever done a menu reset?

0 db doesn't mean no noise. It just means the camera isn't adding any gain. If you're shooting in an environment where the ambient light level doesn't clear the camera's noise floor you'll still get noise.

I have the same probleme and I don't no if it's normal for this camera.
In direct comparison, I remember that my old Canon XH-A1 produced less noise. I tried to set the file scenes with no real success.
@ digiexpressions: Could you please post an screenshot in original size? Do you see the noise on the Flip-out-LCD of the camera too?

The HMC150 produces much less noise than an XHA1. Try them side-by-side; if you're seeing more noise on the 150, you've got something going wrong.

I think I had it on scene 4. I haven't black balanced recently or menu reset. Can you tell me what that is? I'm at work now, but will try to post a screen shot later.

thanks.

A lot of the noise issues people have with the camera can be cured by either using a scene file that cleans up the signal by crushing the blacks by lowering the master ped or even reducing the detail (try B.Press, or CINE-V). Also, try doing a black balance (hold down the AWB button for a few seconds). If that doesn't work, doing a whole camera reset from the menu usually clears things up. Give those a try and see how things turn out.

Also what are you previewing it on? I noticed some cheap LCD's produce a LOT of noise in general - even though its not really there.
