noise and firmware

We all now that the 1/3" HD camera's like light and that the noise levels of the HVX is a bit higher than the competition. Suppose that Panasonic develops an algorithm to reduce the noise level. Would it be possiple to implement it in the current HVX200 via a simple firmware update?

I would also doubt it; I think firmware updates are going to be for things like adding the ability to trim clips; I think any image-processing capabilities are probably burned into the DSP chip and therefore wouldn't be changeable by a simple firmware update.

But, maybe -- the only ones who really know are the Panasonic engineers who built the DSP. I've asked repeatedly for a -3dB Gain setting, which would accomplish basically the same thing you're asking for. If the capability exists already in the DSP, then a firmware update could maybe unlock it. But if the capability doesn't already exist in the DSP, I don't believe a firmware update could add it.

-3 Gain would be AWEOSME. why doesnt the HVX have it anyway. thats the best feature the XL2/H1/A1 have. it made the picture squaky clean.

It's also no more noisey than any of the competitors. I've shot with the JVC and there's noise there. The sony cameras too... and the canon has noticable noise from what I've seen online. Initially people were up about it.. but that concept has to die about it being more noisey. and personally I think that when you have low light garbage in.. you'll get garbage out.
