no sound through headphones

posted this question at another site last week, and no response yet. figured maybe the dvxusers here might have more familiarity with this...?

Hi, my DVX100a had been working perfectly for the past few months, but all of a sudden the headphone jack seems to have some sort of problem.

This first happened during a shoot last week. My camera operator was monitoring the sound through a pair of Sony headphones when all of a sudden the sound just stopped coming through the phones. We tried the same headphones through a different camcorder and they worked fine. We also tried playing back the audio on the dvx100a _without_ the phones plugged in and you could hear the sound just fine through the internal speaker.

I've tried turning the camera off again, on again, tried manipulating every audio control i can find on the camera, tried plugging in a different pair of headphones, but still no luck.

Any ideas why the sound won't come through the headphones anymore?

Thanks.
Krishna

Re: no sound through headphones

I shoot in a salty air environment and haven't had this problem! But working as a musician nightly for the past 25 years, you constantly deal with this sort of problem with sound gear.............most of the time it's dirt, small particles, rust, mold, usually a problem that can be solved by proper cleaning! You might consider blasting some air in the female headphone jack...............or calling Panny service to see if you can spray some mildly caustic electronics cleaning solution in the jack!? Could be a loose wire/causing a short or incomplete circuit. You might have to send it back!

Thanks for the reply, unclemort. I hope the air can works. If not, I have a second DVX that I can use while the other one gets serviced.
