No sound at playback

So I'm testing out the boom mic (Senn ME-66, not phantom) which is directly to the xlr port on my hvx. I'm shooting on tape. I then take out the tape and play it back using another, smaller camcorder which is hooked up to my t.v set. The visuals are there but no Sound. And all the cables are connected properly. Anybody know the reason?

P.S
I have it on XLR input 1 and it's on MIC. Then Ch 1 Select is on INPUT 1 and Ch Select 2 is on INPUT 2. I also have both Mic power +48 switches to OFF. Any ideas?

Yeah, just the top meter was moving. It's weird because during playback on my little camcorder, I could hear the sound coming out of the little speakers but just not on the t.v. Also, is it better to record with just a boom mic alone or should the onboard mics be recording sound as well. I was just trying to record from the boom mic only but not sure what's best.

Try Checking your audio hookup from the small camcorder to the TV. Make sure the audio cables are going into the inputs not outputs on the TV.

Hope this helps :)

Yeah they're all hooked up because when I rewind the tape to previous shot footage, the sound is heard cool but then when I get to the practice shots with the mic attached, the sound goes dead. Any other suggestions???

If you are recording on tape, you will only get two channels of audio, so if you use an external mike, you get no audio from the built-in mikes.

Anyway, if the meter showed movement and if you can hear the audio during playback on the other camera, then the audio is obviously there. The problem must be in the wiring between the second camera and TV, or in the TV setup.

Are you using a S-Video connection between the camera and TV? If so, are you still hooking up a red/white RCA stereo cable for the audio?

yeah I'm connecting the red/white/yellow to the t.v and the A/V cable to the small camcorder. but the wierd part is that other stuff that's on the tape plays with the sound and then it gets to what I shot yesterday and the sound goes mute.
