No Solutions for PC

So i have yet to find a good solution for the pc using the hvx200. Have messed with settings and software all day today and nothing is really working. I tried the ray light demo and it leaves my footage choppy and well just not the best.

Avid doesn't seem to quite work at all. I can't get the .mxf files imported right. The only way i've been able to import them is by making a 720 29.7 project but it won't import them in the 1080i format.

And of course the software i use ppro2 it does not work with.

So i am dreading the fact that i'm possibly going to have to switch to mac. But i don't want to at all... I don't see any other options. But it sucks i can't really use this camera and i just got it today!

Any suggestions?

By far the most integrated option is Canopus Edius Broadcast. Even more integrated than Apple. Download the demo and give it a try.

Avid works fine for 720p 23.9xx. The HVX has to be set to 720pn or 1080pn to use the 24p in 5.2.2 or 5.2.3. If you are like me and you still want to use PPRO export quicktime reference files from Avid (be sure to check the Avid codec). To import the files just drag them to the media folder into sub folder 1 (audio and video). For each new import create a new folder in sequence 2,3,4...etc. You gotta be a little patient though and develop your workflow, I'm using ppro fine and if you follow what I just said, you don't have to give up PPRO.

Ya know, the new intel macs CAN run windows, Apple's Bootcamp allows you to have both Mac and Windows on the same machine, and easily sets it up so you choose which one you want to run when booting up (it's called Bootcamp, and it's made by Apple themselves). So you get the best of both worlds.

I have some definite bias here (I use Mac), but I used Windows for a looooong time, and I'm not one of those Windows bashers by any means, but I do suggest you give Mac a try and keep an open mind, and I think you'll find alot to like. :)

I've found Raylight to be of excellent quality -- once I changed out my machine. Before I was using an AMD 3200+ (2ghz) with 1gb of Ram, and a standard IDE hard drive. When I switched to a dual core 4400+ with 4gb of ram and a RAID 0 Sata drive set, I can now edit in Raylight Blue in realtime (with 720p at least -- haven't tried 1080 yet). The whole rig only cost about $900 or so in parts... certainly worth it, and much cheaper than building a Mac would have been.

thanks

thanks

I appreciate the help.

This is the hurdle for me.

I work for a church in vancouver washington and head up the video department there. We have been using in my department dvx100's for a long time and i've been wanting to upgrade to the sdx900's. We can't really afford those right now, so when i got on here and saw all the incredible footage shot with the hvx200 i didn't see us getting anything else better for any less money. So i moved fairly quickly and we purchased one yesterday. So using premierepro 2.0 for the last 4 years feels like it just put me in a rut now.

I'm running a dual xeon 3gighz system with raid. It's nice and i'm frustrated because i really need this to work for this weekend. We are now broadcasting the messages we tape on sat. sunday at 5 other locations. 4 of them theathers. So the resoultion of the camera and the fact it shoots native 16:9 makes it very crucial that i get this up and running before tomorrow.

So thank you for your help and any other help would be most appreciated.

nathan

p.s. i hope that jumpbled text up there made sense to you.

THe other questions i just had and am very fearful of the answer is. Will i need an HD projector in order to play the final cut i produce Or do i have to just downgrade the footage? Or will it keep the quality?

So i'm wondering if me getting this camera was a ten thousand dollar mistake....

i hope not.

I gave up on Avid because after years of updates, something would inevitably stop working just because I didn't have an "approved" system. I got fed up. I also found using P2 in Avid to be cumbersome.

While a matter of preference I'm sure, so far I really like the workflow using Final Cut Pro, not to mention the performance of the app on a MacBook is simply amazing. I'm scrubbing HD like I did SD back in the day, and it's a great feeling. I'm very impressed. I know there's some concern about having double the data (P2 and imported QT), but I'm not even a little concerned at this point.

If you like the SDX then it sounds like DV50 (SD) will meet your needs. Why bother with HD and the post hassles you are experiencing?:badputer:

Well i didn't think i would be jumping through all these hoops bells and whistles. From what i read and what most people made it sound like it was a peice of cake.

And to get two of these cameras is cheaper for us than the sdx900. we coudn't afford those right now but we needed to upgrade our cameras badly.

Try the Raylight codec - very versatile for offline and online editing and an absolute breeze to use and transfer. (just slip your ps2 card into your pcmca slot and rn the raymaker prog - easy as pie)

and the good part is - only 200 bucks.

I use it and find it great - then you can cut on any editing system you like.

The demo won't help him, as it does not support DVCProHD.
