No SDI I/O available?

Dv.com reviewed Avid Xpress Pro HD and complained of "No SDI I/O available". What does that mean and will it impact me who uses a DVX100a with Avid Xpress Pro?

But curious, what is the practical use of SDI - what industries/products use it and for what?
SDI is nowadays the preferred digital broadcast signal over composite and/or component. Almost all major broadcasters have switched to using SDI for editing, routing and transporting of video; from ingest to transmission. As SDI is an uncompressed digital signal, it provides a higher quality and robustness. Abillity to embed up to 8 audiosignals into the video, prevents sync-drift, and reduces hardware costs.

SDI is the only way to go -regardless of whether you're in NTSC or HD. It's an uncompressed bitstream -the purest signal you will get. Of course you need VTR's that output it and you need an I/O that accepts it...I have 3 Avid's and one handles SDI -it is our workhorse and online system. We have a Studio HD 5.2 with the crappy Mojo which has been in my mind a very weak piece of hardware, but at least it allowed you to input and output component. I've asked the question of Avid -that is: when are you going to improve upon the Mojo? No answer yet, but I would imagine with the new Liquid Chrome elite configurations, that answer may not be far off.
