No power from mini USB port on FS100

Somewhat unsurprisingly it seems the mini USB port can't (or won't) provide power to external devices. I had hoped to be able to power a WHDI stick transmitter using a mini USB to micro USB cable (as the stick takes power via micro USB - 500ma) but it seems not to be getting enough juice to power up.

I was under the impression that the port must supply some power as USB OTG hard drives can be used with it - no? Would I need a special OTG cable perhaps to make it work?

If anyone has any suggestions for lightweight, ideally easy to mount, USB battery packs I could use to power the WHDI transmitter that would be most helpful.

Thanks,

Joe

Sorry to reply to my own post - but I've also tried connecting the device via the supplied USB adapter that comes with the camera and it too fails to power up the WHDI transmitter. Sadly I suspect the camera just refuses to supply power if it doesn't recognise the device attached.

That was what I had expected - but it seems to make no difference whether it's on battery or mains power unfortunately.

I suspect (unless Sony choose to add a more liberal USB power mode via firmware) that an external USB power pack may be my only solution.
