No playback sound/Black & White Question

So I recorded some footage on some mini dv tapes and when I plug the video connector cable (the included tv adaptor plug) from the hvx to the tv the video works but it comes on the tv in black and white. Also, there isn't any sound that comes out of the tv. The thing that is funny is that the camcorder displays color video on the viewfinder and you can hear the video noise coming out of the speaker on the hvx. The plug is the one that has the 3 plugs (the ones that go in the Red, White, and Yellow plugs on a tv) and the other side of the plug has the rectangular plug with pins, etc. Why would this be happening??? Camera settings, tv settings, messed up wires??

Assuming you're talking about the D4 component cable, it should have three leads on it: red, green, and blue. There's no audio on that cable. You plug that into the component inputs on a TV; to get audio you have to separately connect the red & white RCA connectors to the audio inputs on your TV.

Ok, that sounds about right. I figured it was something with the cables. I actually was going to go get the actual yellow, red, and white plugs that connect a dvd player to the tv and just run them from the hvx to the tv but I wanted to get the skinny on the component cables first. Now what is going on with the black and white?

Component is not the same as composite. If your TV has red/white/yellow plugs, you can't use the D4 to Component cable.

Component has Red, Green, and Blue. I'm assuming you plugged the Green into the video input of your TV; the Green is the Luminance (b&w) portion of the video signal; color info is carried on the red & blue connectors.
