No Phantom Power

Hi there,

Been recording on Sennheiser's and wireless Lectrosonics for ages. Today, I can't seem to get my Phantom Power working. Also, switch to battery powered mic and levels are at least on, but way to low at max setting (have to yell into mic). If I turn on Int mic/onboard mic, levels are great. ANy Ideas???? Please help. Going crazy.

I also found this wonderful post on DVXUSER:

We see this happen sometimes. There is an ICP (a small fuse) that is on one of the Power Sub PCB's that blows. I don't know what causes it to blow but it happens.
It may be a good practice to turn the Phantom +48V on after the MIC is plugged in, and turn it off before you unplug the MIC. Just a thought.
You may also want to keep Phantom turned off if you plug line levels in also.

Called Andrew on the phone and he told me it could also be that Channel #1 needs to be replaced (circuts in there that effect both channels), especially since external (battery powered mic) are also low in levels. Thank you Andrew.

I brought this info to my service person here in Toronto (and dealer where I bought the camera). They have since replaced the power supplies, the vtr board and 2 other boards, as well as channel #1 and #2 - and the camera's phantom power is still not working. Can't seem to figure it out.

What a pain. Hope they figure it our soon. Rescheduling shoots, renting camera's and waisting money is not fun.

Be sure to have them check the Power PCBs. If the problem isn't on the CH1 & 2 PCBs, then it needs to be either Power PCB or the VTR PCB.

I'm still thinking about what it could be. I will give a run down of all the PCBs in the DVX100 (names are approximate).

Starting with the Video I/O, CH1 & 2, VTR, Power and Power SUB, Battery interface, Camera, and LCD. There are a few small PCBs such as the handle and VF interface PCB.

The Power and Power SUB PCB could cause the issue. The VTR PCB is a likely suspect. And of course the CH1 & 2.

It looks like those were boards were already swapped. Please keep informed as soon as you hear something from your Service Facility. I'm interested in the solution.

Thanks for all the info and support Andrew. They replaced all the boards... and the phantom power still did not work. Finally, my service guy told me, they replaced the firewire board (which he mentioned was a "warrenty board"???). As I understand it, something blew in there, but he also said it was a "software thing". So not sure that I fully understand what was done, but it is working now. Additionally, I brought the camera in twice before (while it was still on warrenty - not on warrenty any longer) to check the auto focus. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. Unfortunately, every time I brought it in for a check up - it worked. So they never found the problem. This time, as the service guy turned it on he heard the old "Clunk", only he said mine was the loudest he ever heard. He ran a diagnostice and finally found the autofocus problem - go figure. At least he fixed it this time. Supposedly something was rubbing on something. I hope there's nothing that could cause problem in the future though. Camera seems to be working. I'll run a full test on Monday.

I'm glad that things are fixed. The "FireWire Board" is the VTR PCB. I don't think that there is anything established for that board to be a "warranty board" though, so I don't know what that really means. I do know that there is firmware on that board and the Camera PCB. They both have to match for things to work properly. It's also good to hear that your Auto Focus issue has been resolved.
