No parts for DVX 100B?

Can anyone help me? I am a photojournalist taking that big step into video and am planning to buy a mini dv cam. Everyone I have talked to about the DVX 100A and 100B talks the world of it. I want one over anything else because the 24p mode, dual xlr, and manual controls. The problem is, I keep hearing that they stopped making certain parts for it, very important ones like the main board. Is this true? Has anyone not been able to get a part or not fix their camera? I don't want to purchase something that will become a $2k paperweight when it breaks.:violent5::violent5:

The DVX100B is a current model! You can buy them brand new right now. The only part I've heard of that they were stopping from making was for the original DVX100 (not the 100A nor the 100B) and it's still serviceable, they just don't do it as a full board swap anymore. The DVX100 is over five years old, in fact it was discontinued about five years ago! They probably stop making certain parts after a product's been off the market for five years, or something like that.

But the DVX100B is a brand new currently-available fully supported model.

You can search through my previous post for more on this subject but I have needed 3 parts for my then 3 year old (now 4 year old) 100a. A focus ring (actually 2 of them, poor design IMO), a PC component board, and XLR jack. The focus rings were not a problem. The XLR jacks have been discontinued but Spec-comm (I think that was their name) was a huge help. The PC component board has also been discontinued and I have not been able to replace that, so my 100a is a paperweight.

I think the DVX is a great camera but If you are a photojournalist you are going to put the camera to the test and my experiences have not been good with its durability. I know a lot in your field have been going HVX for its versatility. If that is out of your budget I would recommend finding a PD170. That is a very durable camera and you can still get parts for 10 year old Sonys so I would buy with confidence. If you need 24p the Canon XHA1 has proven to be very durable for me and you get HDV. I have seen used ones for under $3000.
