No P2 format in the new HDX900?

Yeah, it'd have to be removable... plus, with the moving parts of a non-solid state hard drive, it would be more inclined to have problems than the P2 cards.

So what happens if you choose to shoot in 25p or 50i? Does it 1440 pixels horizontally? And then would´nt it be strange that the same camera only resolves 1280 when recording at 24p?
For a definition see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DV and scroll down to DVCPRO HD.

I believe the answer may be that it only ever actually ever records 1080i/25 and 1080i/30. 24p and 25p are then recorded psf within that stream - 24p obviously needing 3:2 pull down to get the correct no of frames within 60 fields. Exactly the same way that films are currently broadcast in 1080 systems.

The reason for the resolution change between standards is that 30i obviously has 20% more fields/sec than 25i. To keep the overall compression per field similar, the horizontal resolution is reduced.

i agree removable would be ideal. But with the hardrives mirrored If one fails you still keep all your data. This might be better than P2. because P2 has 4 independent memory cards connected to form one. Which means if one of them fail the whole card is done. 2 80gb 2.5 inch drives No mirror option just sad faces. P2 has proven itself to be reliable thou.

At the recent DC Expo Dv they had the new HDX and I asked about the tape transport and they had no real answer except to say that a P2 version of sort was goiung to be forthcoming. I myself would never buy a non P2 Hd camera. I use the P2 now in a spx800 and I love the workflow although it can try your patience.

One thing that you have to understand is that there are many different requirements in the market place and I think panasonic understands the market a lot better than anybody here. They have been supplying cameras, decks and other equipment to broadcasters worldwide for a long time. Occasionally they will build and market a camera that doesn't really catch on but most of their products have a specific area of the market to address.
The idea of getting away from a tape based workflow was to speed up the post process as well as get away from having moving parts in the cameras. So adding a hard drive instead of a tape drive is not really heading in the right direction.
P2 is still in it's infancy so I guess the 900 was designed to address a part of the market that is still heavily entrenched in the tape based workflow.
On the other hand, people that are wanting a 2/3" chip DVCPro HD camera that is P2 based and offers different recording formats, variable frame rates and an interchangeable lens, can look forward to the new AG-HPX500 for aroundd the same price or less as a 900 with lens.
