No mic's to be found?

I can't figure out how some reality TV shows are mic'ed (how is that spelled?). There's no visible mic on their collar, but when they turn around sometimes, you'll see the black transmitter. I've tried taping a mic inside a shirt, but all I ever got was an awful rubbing friction sound. It's not a boom mic, either, because I've seen the shot pull in, and there's no one else around them. Where is that mic hidden?

Do a search for taping lavalieres - there have been lots of discussions with tips and tricks that each of us use. Everyone has a slightly different way of doing it that works for them. I use a special tape called Hypafix, along with a Dr. Scholl's corn pad and it works great. I also aim for cleavage (male and female) when available to help "shelter" the mic.
